Cherry Smoked BBQ Turkey Breast With Pumpkin Slices...

Never had smoked pumpkin before. Got the idea from ol' Derrick Riches " About Barbecues and Grilling" in About.com, gave me the idea in his latest post. You can also go ahead and use smoked pumpkin to make smoked pumpkin pie if you wish. l tell ya it was good!!

Anything you can cook on your stove and oven in the kitchen can be cooked on a bbq as long as the cost of charcoal does not exceed the price of gas or electricity. Charcoal is quite expensive in Greece specially when you want to buy Brickets from Weber, the only supplier of such "elite" charcoal". Greeks tend to use charcoal once a year, on Easter Sunday to cook a whole lamb on the spit.

Ingredients:
Serves 3

  • 1.2 kg of turkey breast, boned, skinned and washed and dried with  kitchen paper. No salt, no seasoning, we are trying to go back to losing weight here to get ready for the Christmas Holidays.
  • 3 slices of pumpkin as big as your appetite.
  • Pumpkin seasoning to your taste.
  • Basting for your turkey.
Method:
  • Light your charcoal in both baskets and set them side by side on one end of your bbq.
  • There will be enough space left for indirect grilling of the turkey and the pumpkin slices.
  • Cover your bbq and wait for temperature rise to 250 degrees Celsius.
  • Add some soaked cherry wood chips to produce smoke.
  • Sear turkey on both sides for a few seconds.
  • Grill indirectly together with the pumpkin slices for one hour reducing temperature to 200 degrees Celsius.

  • Baste every now and then if you wish.
  • When the inside temperature of the turkey breast reaches 80 degrees Celsius in the thickest part, it is ready.
  • Slice immediately and serve with pumpkin slices and fresh salad.
This is a filling and low in calorie meal.

Bon Appetit,
Stelio
