Baby Patty Kebab Koftas....??@#$%^&*......
What the heck are "Baby Patty Kebab Koftas" ?? Well, they are exactly what they say they are, baby, because the patty is small, kebab because they have the taste of the Egyptian kebab, and koftas because they were round like a ball when they were made and flattened into a patty to make perfectly round patties. So Baby Pattie Kebab Koftas sounds cute, nice...
By the way I am still trying to get that authentic Egyptian Kebab taste. Mind you I still haven't tasted them, so we'll see...
You will need:
Serves 4
- 500 gr ground beef.
- 1 whole egg.
- 3 cloves of garlic crushed and passed through the garlic press.
- 1 Tbsp. sheep's butter melted (that should do the trick).
- 2 Tbsp. fine bread crumbs.
- 1 tsp. "Soumaki". This is a spice found in Oriental spice shops special for grilled meat.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
Method:
- Combine, ground beef, egg, salt, pepper, soumaki, bread crumbs, melted sheep's butter in a bowl and work by hand until you get a good homogenous mixture.
- Take some mix into the palm of your hand and form a ball. Place it on the platter.
- Then press each ball to form a nice round patty about an 1½ inches wide, and ½ inch thick.
- You should obtain 16 baby kebab kofta patties.
- Heat your stove top grill to piping hot.
- Place each patty and cook from one side then from the other till cooked (5 minutes each side plus or minus)
Serve on pita bread, with chopped parsley and yogurt dip (tza tzi ki) or tahini.
-------------------
After meal experience:
They were delicious but slightly too greasy and heavy so I reduced the quantity of sheep's butter to 1 Tbsp. instead of 2.
Enjoy!
